A Walk in the Park is Australia’s largest community event dedicated to improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s.
It brings together thousands of Victorians from all walks of life – those living with Parkinson’s, families, carers, health professionals, friends and supporters.
Date: Sunday 27th August 2017
Location: Federation Square, Melbourne
Start time: The walk takes off at 11am. Entertainment including a warm up, music and fun family activities begins at 9am.
Course: Starting on the banks of the Yarra River participants will complete either a 2km or 4km circuit before reaching the finishing line at Federation Square.
The course is mobility friendly and suitable for wheelchairs and prams. Course marshalls are available to guide people in wheelchairs or with prams to ramps.
There are a few different reasons people walk.
One reason is that, for a person living with Parkinson’s, it's one day in the year that they walk proudly with a community of 3,000 people who care and understand what life with Parkinson’s is like.
Another reason may be that they are a person who loves or knows someone with Parkinson’s and A Walk in the Park is the one day they band together to show their support.
Others walk in memory of someone they have lost; donning emblazoned t-shirts, memories and smiles that encourage others to keep fighting.
Some are part of the wider community and, while they may not know someone with Parkinson’s, they know that we all need to unite together in support of the Parkinson’s community.
Whatever your connection, show your support and take A Walk in the Park this August.
The day includes free entertainment, live music, massages, fun kids’ activities and a traditional sausage sizzle to create a memorable and uplifting experience.
